In the end, if Camouflage were a first novel written by an unknown author and not by Joe Haldeman, renowned SFWA Grand Master, Science Fiction Hall of Fame member, and multiple Hugo and Nebula Award winner, not only would it not have won the Nebula Award, it may well have made the rounds of publisher rejections as so many books do.

They both change identities by reshaping their bodies as if they were digitalized pixels. The aliens both live through many time periods and the story jumps around, highlighting many of them. Despite the coincidence of two shape-shifting aliens of different species happening to camouflagr on Earth at the same time, the lack of emotional connection to most of the characters, and the quick-fix of an ending, Camouflage was a fast and enjoyable read.


To top it all off, the book, despite hovering around only pages, rushes its ending. This was a great find!
