Debt and Deficits
Our country is currently over $23Trillion in debt and climbing by over $1Trillion every year. That number is staggering and unsustainable. We haven’t had an actual surplus in any year since 1957 and the last president to see the debt reduced over his term in office was Coolidge nearly a century ago. Just the interest on the debt is hundreds of billions of dollars, interest that compounds every year because we don’t balance the budget. At the current rate, interest payments alone will be the largest budget expenditure in the next two decades.
Fixing this will require spending cuts. We are already over-taxed and can not sustain another increase. Democrats and Republicans, however, are against spending cuts because it reduces their power. That is why it hasn’t mattered which party was in power, the result has been the same increasing debt.
We need to vote differently. I will not vote for ANY spending bill that isn’t a part of a balanced budget. I will never vote to increase the debt ceiling, and I will work diligently to identify all of the areas where spending can and should be cut.
