Property Rights

This is one of the most abused rights in America. Property taxes negate your ability to actually own your own home. Civil asset forfeiture allows anything you own to be seized without cause or due process. Eminent domain is used to take property for the profit of others. Zoning laws prohibit you from using your own property as you feel best.

Respect for property rights is fundamental to maintaining a free and prosperous society. The freedom to contract to obtain, retain, profit from, manage, or dispose of one’s property must also be upheld. As long as they are not violating the rights of others, people should be free to do whatever they choose with their property.

Recurring property taxes, eminent domain, civil asset forfeiture; governmental limits on profits, prices, and production, (including wages, rents, and interest) are all abridgements of such fundamental rights and should be ended. For voluntary dealings among private entities, parties should be free to choose with whom they trade and set whatever trade terms are mutually agreeable.
