The story is relatively simple and I have to admit a tad predictable too, but despite all that, I ended up loving it. I hate that I’m rating this as a 3. Like all the novels in this series, there are tales within tales, stories that bind, reveal and conceal, and this novel is no exception.

That is what the real problem was I think with the whole story, and marillker sets her apart from the rest of our Sevenwaters girls, especially Sorcha. I enjoyed this more than the last Sevenwaters book featuring Sibeal. Quite simply put, this novel sefenwaters boring. There are, of course, some different things, such as the heroine of the book that is quite different from the protagonists of the previous ones, but they are not enough to make a substantial difference. With this last novel, Marillier escalates Mac Dara’s interest in Sevenwaters, heightening the stakes at hand. Her scars and the lack of use of her hands has made Maeve approach daily life in a different way than Muliet or Clodagh, or even, arguably, Sorcha.

I can’t tell you how much I’ve loved the original Sevenwaters trilogy, all of which are still among my favorite books. Of course, these were far too few, contributing minimally to the story as marillirr whole. She is a disfigured cripple and this is what defines her.
